Seller: treasuretobehad (2.064) 100%, Location: Poole, Dorset, Ships to: Americas, Europe, Asia, AU, Item: 330938445729 c1940's EXTREMELY RARE NORAH WELLINGS WWII RAF 'HARRY THE HAWK' DOLL Large size 28" Estate sale ***** NB: Apologies to my bidders and the many watchers from the previous listing but I had to end the original listing early after finding much more favourable postage rates which benefit both my UK customers and also overseas buyers by some 40%.....a considerable saving. Unfortunately, the Ebay system does not allow me to make these changes once a bid has been placed, even after removing the bids, so I had no alternative but to end the listing early and re-list with the new, lower postage rates. Sincere apologies for the inconvenience but it is with your best interests at heart. (Nothing else has changed on the listing, just the postage rates). Thank you. x For the people round the other side of the globe wanting Harry, I am also pleased to re-quote at a much more favourable rate of £37.95 to Australia - thank you all so much for your interest. ****** Just in from a recent estate sale along with lots of other items relating to the war including newspapers, ration books. Norah Wellings is famous for her cloth dolls, mainly sailor dolls which were purchased as souvenirs on many ocean liners of the day. These are fairly common place, each sporting the name of the liner they were purchased from on their caps, but still highly collectible. This 'Harry The Hawk' doll however, was only in production for a short spell during WWII and is very scarce. These dolls rarely come onto the market place so this is an opportunity not to be missed! Collectors all over the world will have tried to source this doll as it was a very important doll in Norah Wellings collection. Trade had slowed down, understandably, when WWII began and she wanted to do something that would help the war effort. With more time on her hands, she designed the 'Harry The Hawk' RAF doll, of which a large percentage of the proceeds went directly to the RAF Comforts Funds. He was a resounding success! Harry measures 28" in height, so a very large doll. He comes with his original backpack, parachute and flying cap, and all are in excellent condition. Underneath his jumpsuit, he wears his air force blue RAF uniform with pride. His condition is good considering he is made from fabric and was made in the 1940's. There's one or two moth holes in the fabric and he has some paint that has flaked away on his left eye. He's also lost an arm somewhere along the way but I'm sure this could be restored if you so chose to. Personally, I like him just as he is. A good honest piece and an extremely rare find for you. You may wait years for another of these to surface, if indeed another does. Very best of luck to you or should I say "Tally Ho and away you go"! I always combine postage to save you money so please see if there's anything else that you may want. x NB: Please contact me for postage costs to Northern Ireland and Isle of Man or any other obscure post code area of the UK. They are not included in the above stated rates but I will be happy to get you a quote for postage....just ask before bidding please. x Thanks for looking! Norah Wellings wanted to do something to help the war effort so she created this extraordinary 'Harry The Hawk' doll for which a large percentage went to the RAF Comforts Fund. This fabulous 'Harry the Hawk' doll still has his original backpack and parachute. He has a few holes in his clothing here and there but they are in overall, very good condition. He's also lost an arm and some paint in his left eye has flaked away... but then, he was around during WWII. His air force blue RAF uniform is intact underneath his jump suit. An amazing find!!!!!, Type: Vintage 1940's, Manufacturer: Norah Wellings, Doll Name: Harry The Hawk, Material: Cloth, Eye Colour: Blue, Region of Origin: England
