With this in mind, I will not be offering postage, but I am offering a very generous delivery service. The full asking price includes delivery and the setting up of this clock within a hundred and seventy five mile radius of Congleton. Please read the note towards the bottom of this listing. Back in the day... Clocks weren't just a decoration; families centred their lives on the time they displayed. As a repairer, each one is defiantly different and has a personality. When you think of what the world has been through since these clocks were made, my mind just boggles. Wars, natural disasters and the changing face of technology. Millions of lives born and lost along with all they have experienced. How many children learnt to tell the time using them? How many owners have these clocks had? How many times have they been handed down after the owner has died? If only they could talk! I am passionate and obsessed about these old clocks and want to see them being passed down for future generations. On offer here is a now lovely, circa 1880 restored Victorian slate Japy Freres French mantel clock. This clock has been fully and extensively, restored, serviced and cleaned by myself. The case to this clock was in poor condition and required a great deal of work. The movement too, was in poor condition and was not working. I have cleaned and serviced the movement and restored the case to what I hope you think is a high standard, while still trying to keep the character of the clock. I get the most satisfaction working on clocks that are in such a terrible state that often, they are thrown out. I so strongly want to see these clocks restored and back working for future generations to enjoy. This clock is an eight day and strikes on the half hour and counts the hours at 12. As with all eight day clocks, it should be wound every seven days. It is now keeping very good time. The slate case dimensions are 15 ¾” wide by 11 ½” high by 6 ¼” deep. The clock dates from around 1880. For a clock coming up to its 140th year and because of the service it has undergone, now runs and strikes very well. Some believe that an old clock should look brand new. I don’t. I like an old clock to look in good condition for its age, but not like it has just been brought from John Lewis. Please do bear in mind that this is an old clock and therefore although in very good condition for its age, there will be some imperfections related to this. As I have said, the case is in very poor condition. It was thick with a century’s worth of nicotine and grime so was therefore very dull in colour. The gilt work was completely gone. I have re-coloured the case using my own special process and redoing the gilt work. The case does show some age related mottling. The six pillars have been repainted to what I think is the right shade of green. All in all it had many hours of work, in fact more hours than the movement. The case will have some small marks and nibbles which will be age related, but this is very minor. The face and dial were not too bad, its main problem being dirt. I have taken great care in cleaning it and I think it is in great condition for a clock this age. There is a hairline crack to the porcelain chapter ring to the right of the number 6. This is small and fine. This clock comes will come with a new double ended key. In summary, this clock has been fully restored, cleaned and serviced. The movement was completely stripped. It required 3 new bushes in the plates, which wasn’t too bad for a clock this age. Both mainsprings have been replaced with quality new ones. All the wheel pivots have been polished in my lathe and all the parts were then cleaned and finished by hand. Case has been completely restored. As mention this clock is very heavy. Please make sure you have a sturdy level surface to place it. These old clocks do not like full sun, so placing on a window sill is not recommended. As with all my clocks, the buyer will receive my own care sheets so that you will get the most out of the clock. Covering four sheets of A4, these pages cover everything from winding up the clock and adjusting the time, to when to have it serviced. You will receive a C/D with a write up and a 118 photos showing all the work I have done on the movement and case. The care sheets will be on the CD. If you require them printing, please let me know. Please note the following on postage:- Owing to the weight and age of this clock I will not be offering postage. I do offer a delivery and setup service to anywhere within mainland UK. If you pay full price for the clock the delivery is included up to a hundred and seventy five miles from Congleton. If you live further than that, the added cost for delivery is 0.30 per mile return. So the cost of delivery and setup, if you lived 200 miles from me would be £15. If you live on an Island the ferry crossing would also have to be paid. You will also receive a twelve month guarantee. You will see the clock running and ask any questions you might have. Remember If you do decide to pick up the clock from me or have it delivered and setup by myself I will give you a twelve month guarantee. Please have a good look at the photos before buying and email any questions you might have. Condition: This clock has been cleaned, serviced and repaired by myself. Both the movement and case have had a great deal of work carried out and is now in very good condition, but do bare in mind that its not a new clock at nearly 140 years old. Please read the listing in full, look at the photos and email any questions you may have.
