Item:401702543476antique Scottish treen coopered feathered staved wooden luggie / piggin bucket. A beautiful old Scottish "piggin" or "luggie"*: a small, handled, coopered bucket for kitchen use; classic "treen". The joins between the staves show that amazing joining technique called "feathering" which seems to knit the pieces of wood together. Although the tones of the woods are now very close, this was made as a contrasting colour piece. Few Scottish households today own utensils like this although at one time most prosperous kitchens in Scotland probably had such things. Size: 6 1/2 inches / 16.5 cm tall, approximately. Condition: distressed (missing one iron band; some staves loose). A beautiful folk art, farmhouse or cottage accent piece. *Pinto: "Treen"; plate 46; "luggie". There seems to be disagreement about the correct name for this shape.
Condition:Shrinkage with age has opened joints; one metal band missing
