ITEM DESCRIPTION/DETAILS:

PHOTO #1: SHOWS THE KNOB INSTALLED ON A SINGLE IDEAL MAHOGANY SECTION. THE IDEAL SECTION IS FOR REFERENCE ONLY!

PHOTO #2: SHOWS THE KNOB CLOSE UP MOUNTED ON A DISPLAY PIECE OF STAINED MAHOGANY.

PHOTO #3: SHOWS HAND HELD CLOSEUP OF AN IDEAL KNOB IN BRIGHT POLISHED BRASS WITH ROSETTE. NOTE THE GREAT DETAIL !

PHOTO #4: SHOWS THE 2 TYPES OF FINISHES NEXT TO ONE ANOTHER. THE LEFT SHOWS THE BRIGHT BRASS FINISH AND THE COPPER AGED FINISH ON THE RIGHT. THE BRASS FINISH CAN BE AGED IF SO DESIRED FOR AN ADDITIONAL $10.00 PER SET.

PHOTO #5: SHOWS ORIGINAL IDEAL DRAWER ASSEMBLIES AND ORIGINAL 120 YEAR OLD KNOB SETS NEXT TO OUR CURRENT SUPERIOR RE-RELEASE OF THE SAME HARDWARE. AGAIN NOTE THE DETAIL OF OUR NEW RELEASES .

PHOTO #6: SHOWS A COMPLETE SET OF THE DRAWER HARDWARE IN BRIGHT BRASS FOR REFERENCE ONLY . THIS IS SHOW TO GIVE A FULL VIEW OF THE DETAIL AND COMPLEXITY OF THE HARDWARE. PLEASE SEE OUR OTHER EBAY AD FOR THESE BEAUTIFUL IDEAL DRAWER SETS.

PHOTOS #7, 8 & 9: SHOWS THE IDEAL SECTIONS AND STACK BOOKCASE FOR REFERENCE ONLY PHOTOS #7 AND #8 SHOWS THE CASE WITH OUR NEW KNOBS INSTALLED. THIS IS SHOWN AS WELL OVER HALF OF THE IDEAL OWNERS OUT THERE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY OWN. THE CASES ARE OFTEN NOT MARKED WITH THE LARGE LABELS AT THE BACK OR JUST HAVE THE PLASTIC BAKELITE GLOBE WERNICKE LABELS. WE HAVE THOSE IDEAL SPECIFICALLY MARKED FACTORY LABELS IN ANOTHER EBAY AD.

THEY ARE AVAILABLE IN AGED COPPER, POLISHED BRASS AS THESE WERE THE ONLY OPTIONS AVAILABLE. WE ALSO PROVIDE AN AGED BRASS FOR THAT "ANTIQUE" LOOK FOR AN ADDITIONAL $10.00 FEE.

THE POLISHED BRASS WAS MORE OFTEN THAN NOT FOUND ON THE MAHOGANY IDEAL UNITS. THE OAK UNITS PREDOMINANTLY USED THE COPPER AGED AND OCCASIONALLY THE POLISHED BRASS KNOBS.

THEY WOULD MAKE A WONDERFUL KNOB TO ACCENT YOUR PRE-1930 HOME IN THE KITCHEN OR BUILT IN UNITS, CUPBOARDS AND BOOKCASES ESPECIALLY IF YOU ALREADY OWN ANY IDEALS IN YOUR LIBRARY.

DIMENSIONS:

1/4 INCH IN HEIGHT AND THE ROSETTE IS 5/8 INCH ACROSS. THE KNOB TOP IS 3/4 INCH BY 1/4 INCH APPROXIMATELY AS THEY ARE MORE AN EGG SHAPED THAN OVAL FROM THE HAND FINISHING PROCESS. EACH KNOB IS DIFFERENT FROM EVERY OTHER KNOB PRODUCED AS A RESULT OF HAND FINISHED PRODUCTION. EACH IS ITS OWN WORK OF JEWELRY QUALITY ART. SINCE EACH ASSEMBLY IS HAND FINISHED, AND EVERY IDEAL CASE/BASE WE HAVE IN STOCK IS CUSTOM BUILT, THE HARDWARE DOES REQUIRE INDIVIDUAL ADJUSTMENTS TO EACH CASE WHEN INSTALLING. IT IS NOT DIFFICULT BUT REQUIRES A LITTLE EFFORT TO GET A PERFECT FIT TO EACH CASE.

HISTORY

The Globe Wernicke ® Ideal stack bookcase line is the top of the line Globe Wernicke ® stacks that were ever offered. They were produced from 1900 until the late 1920's. We include a photo of the oak Ideal bookcase stack in the last photo for reference only. Many people who own the Ideal stacks are not even aware of what they possess. The knobs used on these stacks were occasionally used on other production lines of Globe Wernicke ® stacking units. We have most often seen them on the rare drawer stacks and other unusual units and occasionally the standard production S, C, D, E, G, and H series units. These knobs were never offered in any of the Globe Wernicke ® Catalogues of the era. The most remarkable thing is that each and every knob is different! They were all SAND cast produced then HAND FINISHED! We discovered this in the many years of searching for a source for the knobs. When we were unsuccessful at that we then spent endless hours searching first here in the USA, then worldwide, for someone to put the knobs back into production. The days are long past in this country for production of hand finished pieces. In the past when we found ourselves in need of a knob we had to take single knobs and their matching rosette down to the local art brass foundry and have single SAND cast copies made one at a time. As with all sand cast items the detail is poor and the cost was $45.00 per knob. Finally, a source was found that would adhere to the original production dimensional standards as well as improving on the manner in which they are produced which is the LOST CAST WAX manner of production. THIS HAS YIELDED A FAR SUPERIOR JEWELRY QUALITY KNOB. Their quality is so high we have changed out the entire inventory of 200+ Ideals in stock here at Globe Wernicke ® USA.

Collecting the Ideal line is a passion of ours. In following our bliss we often are faced with many obstacles and what appears to be chaos and potential failure along the way. Most people in life today settle for the safety of mediocrity. In restoring the Globe Wernicke ® units we have found that 90% of the time sellers/restorers/collectors settle on inaccurate, poorly made, inferior, cheap products which devalue the cases and stacks they are restoring. Often the cost of quality production is prohibitive or they simply lack the inclination or dedication and persistence do it right. It takes little more effort in production to make the perfect part than it does to produce the imperfect one. THESE KNOBS AND ROSETTES MEET OR EXCEED THE QUALITY OF THE ORIGINAL RELEASES. THE PHOTOS SHOWING THE MIXED PARTS TOGETHER IS OF ORIGINALRELEASES AND NEW PRODUCTION PARTS. YOU CAN NOT DISTINGUISH ONE FROM THE OTHER. The only possible exception is that the new production knobs have a “shinier” finish to the lacquered surface, much better detail and consistency in production quality from knob to knob.   In most instances when we tested the new production knobs (and other hardware we are offering) it actually fit and operated better than the original release hardware when interchanging between different cases in the same stack. In other words our tolerances, material and production standards EXCEEDS THE ORIGINAL RELEASE IN ALMOST EVERY CASE.   In short there was no settling for mediocrity in the production of these items.

REGARDING THE AGING PROCESS :   Many think that the process of getting that perfect aged look of these knobs through Aging and Burnishing is easy. It is NOT. I can't begin to tell you of the hours, money, equipment and injuries invested in getting it right. To get that perfect aged look to your antique Macey Globe Wernicke® stacks we:  start with a Polished knob (2nd Photo for reference), then soak the knob in strong stripper for a week to remove the baked on hardened lacquer finish off. The Polished knobs with their baked hardened lacquer coating will probably never age (SERIOUSLY). Then the knobs are fine wire wheeled, fine cloth high buff wheel polished with compound, cleaned with thinner, then put into the acid aging solution for just exactly the right amount of time. They are then allowed to dry for 24 hours. Next they are wiped down by hand, then lightly Burnished on a high speed cloth buffing wheel (dry) to give that perfect luster Burnished/Aged look OR hand buffed at this point for that Satin look. Because of the exhaustive work involved we perform this process in batches of Fifty knobs at a time. There may be a wait time if we are in between batches. The total process takes about 10 days.  We use these very same Aged/Burnished or Satin knobs on our own inventory of cases. They look fabulous installed and matching in size. The finishes vary just enough to give the entire stack instillation a flawless, authentic to original, aged antique look. Often the stack units have been "married together" over time as more books were added to the library. That often resulted in a diverse different style of knobs on different sections. This is picked up by admirers (buyers?) of your stack. We universalize all our stacks and libraries. In our experience the Aged/Burnished or Satin knobs look best on the Oak stacks in Walnut stains (the predominate stain on 80% of all units produced). The Polished brass looks best on the Fumed Oak, Golden Oak, Mahogany stained Oak, True Mahogany and Mahogany stained Birch units. These are all the standard stain options offered by the Globe Wernicke® Macey Corporation.  See our other eBay ad for the Polished brass versions. Everyone has their own preference and now we can meet your individual tastes no matter what your preferences are.

WE ALSO HAVE ANTIQUE GLASS ON HAND IF SO DESIRED AS WELL AS ALL POSSIBLE KNOBS.

WE HAVE THE SCISSORS FOR ALL GLOBE WERNICKE® DOORS. PLEASE SEE OUR OTHER EBAY ADS.
