Watch - Believed Gift from Jack Adams & Detroit Red Wings' -1938 European Tour. A vintage 1930's Gold Plated Mechanical Watch. Watch Case Measures 28mm x 28mm Engraving on the Back: From Jack Adams & The Detroit Redwings 6-5-38 Condition: The watch is of the date engraved (1930s) and its plating is wearing on the front edges, the leather strap is fairly recent addition, of high quality and in good condition. The watch its self still keeps good time. I acquired this watch 5 or so years ago from a Jewellers in West London, England. I was intrigued by the 'Detroit Red Wings' engraving and was interested into why this would come into a Jewellers in London. I have done some research and so far I know. Jack Adams was a 'Hall of Fame' manager of the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings toured Europe with the Montreal Canadiens and played a series of exhibition games in 1938. The Date Engraved (English Form) was in between games at Earls Court (West London) and Brighton (Sussex). "I'm guessing the watch was bought in the UK and engraved here (hence the UK date form, and Red Wings written as one word), and at some point presented, but to whom and what for is still unknown This is all I know, I don't have much more information, but am happy to try and answer questions. My view is that it was a gift from Jack Adams and the Detroit Red Wings, due to limited interest in the UK, there would be no reason for someone in the UK to manipulate the watch to have us believe so. When acquiring the watch, 'the engraving' was seen as a 'negative'. I have been open in what I know, I am selling the watch as seen and described, but with no guarantees." I am taking a gamble and listing this item with no reserve and a £0.01p starting price (including postage) in the hope it finds a home that can really appreciate it's probable history. Happy Bidding!
