A very collectable sweetheart brooch to The Army Cyclist Corps this is a gilt and enamel badge attached to a Mother of Pearl backing which is surrounded by a silver rim. Dating from WW1 the brooch is in excellent condition with original pin fittings intact. It is much better in real life than it appears in the pix! I combine postage whenever possible and always use tracked and signed for service for UK buyers. If you buy more than one item so that you pay the correct postage (which might be more or less) please do not pay until I invoice you as I can send six badges for the same charge as one, & items valued at more than £50 will be sent by special delivery. Overseas buyers please contact me for correct postal charges before making payment - the £8.55 shown is the maximum it would be, if sent tracked & signed for worldwide.PLEASE do not pay until invoiced, thank you. Sweetheart brooches became fashionable during the Boer War but with the outbreak of the First World War and the mass waves of enlistment their popularity soared. These small items of jewellery, normally in the form of a pin or brooch, were given by soldiers and sailors to their loved ones. They are normally found in the style of miniature versions of the various regimental badges. The materials used and the quality of the brooches vary hugely from very simply and crudely made pieces through to exquisite gold and enamel items made by some of the finest jewellers of the day. It is not unusual to find modified cap badges and buttons that have had their fittings removed and replaced with a brooch pin so as they could be worn by a loved one or family member as jewellery. I have many other Sweethearts, badges & various militaria for sale on my web site www.emgeemilitarybadges.com It might be well worth taking a look if you are a collector. |
