Description: An Orrefors crystal Vase by Edvin Ohrstrom for Orrefors in the traditional modernist style known as the Optic Ribbed vase. The marking is etched on the underside of the bottom of the vase as “OF FU 1746” indicating the work of the Orrefors firm and designer, Edvin Ohrstrom.

Edvin Öhrström joined Orrefors in 1936

One of the first things done by Edvin Öhrström was to explore the concept of creating optical effects within the vessel. He developed a tool to create indentations inside a vase or bowl while still on the end of a ponti rod. This new technique created reflections of light from within the form.

examples from 1937 include vases FU 1746, FA 1806 and FA 1832.

During 1939 we see some examples FA 1884, FA 1886, FU 1887, and FU 1892 which include vases and bowls.
