NEWMAN & GUARDIA - 'Pocket' GILT BRASS FOCUSING MAGNIFIER c.1908 - Photography

Description

An antique gilt brass photographer's focusing magnifier, made by Newman & Guardia, London, c.1908.  Used to hold up to the frosted plate on the back of a glass plate camera or for checking photographic transparencies on a light box, window or other light source.  Made in two sections, the lower section has an internal tube with lens which slides to focus.  This example is more portable as the upper section can be removed and screwed the opposite way into the lower body, to fit more easily in a pocket.

Condition / Defects:

In very good clean condition; visually clear optics, but a little dusty when viewed through the eyepiece - however, this doesn't appear to affect the image.  The slider screw is a replacement and the tube is quite stiff to slide.

Approx: height 106 - 112mm), diameter 31mm.  Height when packed 60mm.
