A large antique French Napoleon III mantel clock dating to the 19th century, circa 1870. The clock, of rectangular form, features a large Sevres porcelain dial with individual white cartouches housing black hand painted Arabic numerals with flowers separating each one alongside outer chapter indicating minute marks. The centre features a hand painted floral scene.The dial is protected by a thick bevelled glass door which is encased within a silver coloured bezel. The whole raised on a stepped base and surmounted by a stepped top.
The 8 day mechanical movement strikes the hours and half on a gong . The clock is complete with pendulum and winding key. The mechanism is also protected by a door and is stamped by one of the most important and prolific 19th century clock manufacturers, Japy Freres.
