Seller: seanysmith1 (290) 100%, Location: Axminster, Ships to: GB, Item: 124000479587 Beautiful antique slate clock from the Victorian era. This clock has a black face with a brass surround and gold coloured Roman numerals. It is in perfect working order and has an 8 day pendulum movement striking on the hour and half hour. Unusually this clock has both glass on the front dial and at the rear. I believe the idea being that if positioned on a mantlepiece in front of a mirror it would display the movement in the reflection. The glass is in excellent condition front and rear with no scratch marks, the clock comes with its own winding key. I would suggest collection in person due to the weight and fragile nature of the clock but I will post in a strong will packed and protected box. I have recently been asked the following questions about this clock which may be helpful information: How old? No specific date of manufacture is visible on the clock but when I had it serviced and if you do some research on this style of clock I believe it to be sometime during the 1880/90's.Does it chime? It has a single metal bell which has a unobtrusive distinctive sharp but soft tone when stuck by the movements hammer, it does not have a musical chime such as Westminster. Can you turn the chime off? No, but you can unscrew the bell and remove it which basically silences the clock.Does it run ok? Yes, it runs perfectly and keeps good time so long as you look after it and remember to wind it of course. I bought the clock as a unloved none runner in 2012, I had it cleaned, the movement serviced and new glass fitted in both front and rear, (the rear glass was missing). I lost the invoice to prove all this but when you consider this clock is at least 130 years old the recent repair/service work is obvious to see. What is the size of the clock? It measures 25.5cm wide x 30cm high x 14cm depth. For those who are interested, the face has Martin Biszot Tours written on it, I have googled this but cannot find any information on it, I suspect the name of a company long since forgotten in time but preserved on this lovely timepiece. Condition: Antique used, Clock Type: Mantel/ Carriage Clock, Style/ Origin/ Theme: Victorian, Featured Refinements: Slate Clock
