This is a nice, slim, and elegant, George VI Period Sterling Silver Cosmetic Compact Case, which is very crisply engine turned and engraved with a lovely contemporary monogram. The case is hallmarked with the assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter W for 1946, and the maker's mark for Fred H Adams & Holman. Very good antique condition, externally the engine turning is very crisp, with just a couple of tiny dings to the monogrammed cartouche, and just a little bit of light wear to the engine turning to the left of the monogram. The hallmarks are internal, behind the mirror and are clear. The hinge is fine and the case closes nice and tightly. Internally, the mirror can be easily prozed loose, but is reasonably secure, but has a few scuffs. On the powder side, the silver is very heavily scratched; this wouldn't normally matter because it woyld be hidden by the powder. The case is 6.8 cm x 6.8 cm, and the silver on its own weighs 82 g.
