Fargesia Robusta Pingwu is a popular choice for creating sight and sound screenings in gardens. It has a limited spread of around 1.5m, so doesn’t take up too much space yet grows to an impressive 4-5m tall, creating a narrow yet effective screen or hedge.
Commonly known as Umbrella Bamboo, Fargesia Robusta Pingwu offers excellent coverage for large and small gardens alike. It is tolerant to wind exposure and can be grown in the ground or in containers to provide height interest and increase privacy. This type of bamboo is evergreen, non-invasive and its tight growth habit makes it ideal for screening off areas of the garden.
The tall stems create excellent privacy but are also attractive. New shoots blossom in early spring and change from yellow to a stunning rust red before turning green in early summer. The leaves will then begin to peel away, leaving a striking checkerboard effect on the elegant canes. New leaves and branches will appear towards the top of the culms in autumn and these will flourish right through winter.
This is a low maintenance plant once established and is hardy to temperatures as low as -20°C. It can tolerate sun but prefers to be out of direct sunlight in the afternoon, when the sun is at its strongest. Fargesia Robusta Pingwu also copes well with wind, making it a perfect option for creating a hedge or screen.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may therefore differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only - The plant will be supplied in a growers pot. Depending on season, some plants may be pruned back to encourage growth and deciduous plants may arrive without leaves.
