Item:143117180312A small well made posted frame 30 hour hood or longcase movement from the 18th century. Anchor escapement. Countwheel strike. Unusually, the movement has an iron bottom plate and a brass top plate. Forged iron backcock. The top and botom frame plates are virtually square which may indicate that this movement was first intended as a lantern clock. There are two sets of small holes at the front corners of the top and bottom plates that may indicate that the clock originally had side doors. Please see images below. At the top of the images below I have included 2 short videos to give you an idea of how the mechanism runs. Please allow the videos load before playing them through. Condition. The movement is rather dirty and very tarnished but is structurally sound. Otherwise in excellent condition There is moderate wear to most of the pinions however the fly pinion has a bit more wear and the escapement pallets do have some wear pits that should be corrected. The wheel trains run smoothly when pressure is applied to the great wheels and the escapement trips well with minimal ‘drop’. The movement is complete except for the hour wheel and minute wheel and the bell stand which are all missing. No bell, dial or hands. Original wooden weight pullet is present. Dimensions Overall height of movement to top of hammer 19.3 cm (7 5/8”) Overall depth of movement 15 cm (5 7/8”) Plates 11.9 cm (4 11/16”) wide x 11.4 cm (4 1/2”) deep Internal height between plates 13.5 cm ( 5 5/16”) Packed weight 2.2kg 27 x 26 x 19 cm 035 - YouTube Video will open in a new window Using the eBay App?
