Seller: mo11ywood (42) 100%, Location: TAUNTON, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 202575293603 Tavern clock made circa 1770 - 1780 signed Robert Cook London A original and beautiful old Tavern clock, constructed from oak, in good condition for its age. Having an "A" framed movement, with original weight and pendulum. Still retaining its Original steel lock, nailed on as it should be, and brass step door hinges. The Hands are pitted but still in good condition, and the hour hand is held onto the movement with 2 pins.which is a common method for this type of clock, and the minute hand with a pin and a collet .The condition structurally is very good for its age, and the overall condition of the paint work is excellent, and it requires No stabiliser or any paint or lacquer like some clocks do. The movement works well and keeps good time, The dial is 28.5 inches overall diameter, with a face of 24 inches, and an overall height of 57inches. This generally means the clock is of Average size, and would hang well in most houses. The larger tavern clocks you need a bigger wall to hang them on so they will look correct, but the size of this tavern clock will suit any room. As this clock is approx 240 years old it does have signs of wear, scrapes and marks, shrinkage and seasoning shrinkage, which is common for this type of clock, it is what you would expect to find, on a genuine and original clock. so please study the pictures carefully, as I cannot describe all cracks chips faults etc, what you see in the pictures is my description. something this old may have had a repair, something replaced or worn out part refurbished, so please don't expect a perfect brand new clock, If you need more pictures please, ask. International courier cost is only estimated. please ask for a exact price. courier to the UK will be about 30 pounds, But I will try to assist to help with personal deliver by private courier, so again if you cannot collect please contact me , and we will be able to work out a safe delivery. Inspection is welcome, as is cash on collection. please ask about payment options, On 25-Jan-19 at 00:04:10 GMT, seller added the following information: The clock is 8 day duration. The UK courier or postage is £30, not ten as shown. sorry for the mistake. On 27-Jan-19 at 21:15:28 GMT, seller added the following information: I was just asked this question, Hi,To be crystal clear as you show the clock partly disassembled, is it fully working and keeping good time?regards, Hi yes the clock is in perfect working order. With this type of clock, you have to show pictures of inside the clock and all aspects of the clock. If the original hinges , lock were replaced with later one it would devalue the clock, If the seatboard was renewed, seaboard cheeks or the movement replaced , the value would plummet. Having all the original components as I have mentioned, along with the original weight, hands and pendulum, it what makes these clocks very valuable. A tavern clock, which has replacement parts, can be next to worthless, so its important to disassemble the clock, to show that the parts that it is made from are the original parts, and this shows people that its a genuine tavern clock that is 240 years old. It also shows the condition of the clock in general. The clock now, is re assembled hanging on my wall and keeping good time. thanks
