Item:113736302906Writing Slope Restoration Sympathetically Restored and Enhanced as appropriate: Ladies writing slope with ink bottle, new skiver, working lock and key.I have listed the procedures undertaken to restore this writing slope so that it will go on for another 150 years plus. Hopefully it will show the care it was originally made with and reflect some of its history and previous use. A lot of care is used to preserve the original identity of the slope. Locks and hinges removed, repaired and cleaned using clock cleaning fluid. All cracks and loose veneer stabilised clamped and glued as appropriate. All previous polish and wax removed and the outer slope rubbed back with wire wool and a spirit wash. More extensive work may be required depending on wear and tear but original patina preserved where possible. Veneer replaced and colour matched as near as possible where necessary (Some historical repairs are stabilised or re-stained). The inner compartments of the slope are glued where loose and any missing parts sought or re-made as necessary. Inner slopes have the old skiver removed carefully and veneer borders repaired or replaced as necessary. In some cases the inner slopes have been replaced using solid wood and stained as appropriate. Where the inner slopes are missing or damaged, solid wood is used to replace the boxwood and veneer of the original. The hinges and locks are re-fitted using new screws. The inner slopes are reinforced and fitted with a new skiver. If ink bottles are missing they are replaced with a reproduction one that will enhance the overall appearance. If a key can be found it will be included with the finished slope along with a tassel to avoid future loss. A new baize is fitted to bottom of the restored slope. The outer slope is then French Polished and finally burnished and polished. Restored with care for you to enjoy.Condition:Superb restored condition with ink bottle and new skiver.
