Item:202770890702Normal 0 Please note that this is a 5 Days only Sale which ends on Sunday 8 September 2019 and is for the first of a pair of simply wonderful Mintons hand painted and framed tiles - I regret that the pictures simply do not do justice to either the quality of the painting or the colours. An absolutely delightful and original Mintons antique tile from around 1872 ready to hang and display superbly in its original frame. I believe that the design is by William Stephen Coleman who was the Art Director of the short lived and greatly lamented Minton Art Pottery Studio in Kensington Gore between 1871 and 1875. This was where many of the most innovative products of the company were produced during the relatively short life of the Studio which employed a number of Mintons' finest artists. I believe that the young lady shown on the tile is wearing Italian national costume of the latter part of the 19th Century - detailing is fabulous - right down to the details of her necklace. The tile has absolutely no visible damage or restoration and I believe that it has probably been its wooden frame since around the time that it was made - yet more astonishingly its pair has lived with it for around 140 years in an identical frame and the two are shown together in some of the pictures. This sale is for the young lady who is facing right - the other tile is listed separately. I regret that there is a reserve price for each tile. The tile itself is 8 inhches by 6 inches (20 cms by 15 cms) and overall as framed is 9.5 by 7.6 inches (24.5 by 19.5 cms). The frame is old fabric backed and wired for hanging. The covering to the back of one tile was temporarily removed to confirm the marks which are shown in a picture as is the 'interesting' and probably original backing. The framed size is 9.75 inches high by 7.75 inches wide (24.5 by 19.5 cms). The execution and firing of the design is as good as any I have ever seen in a handpainted tile. The figure, the water, the land and the sky are all beautifully observed and executed. The marks to the reverse are impressed and are as shown with MINTON and 5X9. I pack to an excellent standard and the shipment costs are just what Royal Mail charges me - if your tile shipment comes out as any less than the amount quoted I refund the difference.Condition:A wonderful tile in excellent condition - framed and ready to hang!, Date:Circa 1872, Designer:William Stephen Coleman, Style:Victorian, Decade:Pre 1890, Material:Ceramic/ Pottery, Original/Reproduction:Antique Original, Pattern:Girl Facing Right in National Costume, Type:Minton Tile, Brand:Minton, Pottery Technique:Equisitely Hand Painted
