Item:273810672891This is a beautiful Bride's Basket made in the Art Nouveau style, circa 1900-1920, with exceptional metalwork (please examine all photos carefully to appreciate this gilt brass, with some of the gilding worn on the high spots). The handle is fixed in place, bolted through holes on the glass bowl. The pierced work on the gilded brass is, as said, exceptional, and exceptionally beautiful. At the top of the handle is a small shaped "button" that provides an excellent example of French champleve work, with hand a painted rose and leaves. The bowl itself is pressed into Art Nouveau/Art Deco wavy lines around its circumference; very attractive. No damage that I can see: no chips in the glass, or cracks, and no damage to the metal except the normal wear to the gilt surface that one might expect from age and use. Dimensions:8 1/2 inches tall, to the top of the handle9 3/8 inches handle to handleMolded glass bowl: 10 inches by 9 inches The frame itself leans toward Victorian detail, pierced and filigreed handle, base, and beautiful connecting brass work. The mingling of two styles, Victorian and Art Nouveau, show that this is an early Art Nouveau or Art Deco piece. Stunning wedding gift!
