Antique and vintage items often make nicer than new gifts ITEM
Royal Doulton is one of England most famous names as a producer of high quality china and it is is particularly well known for its delightful, and much collected, seriesware on several themes...in this Case 'Coaching days'. which celebrates the UK's remarkable Royal Mail coach history of the late18th and early 19th Centuries.
"Rare" is an often overused word, but in this case we think its use is justified to describe this 13-piece, tea-for-two set. It is usually possible to find individual pieces of the 'Coaching days' series on-line, but rare to find a surviving set.
It comprises... 1 x teapot, 2 x trios (cups/saucers/side plates), 1 x larger cake/sandwich serving plate, 1 x milk and cream jugs, 1 x sugar bowl, 1 x 'slops bowl' (for used tea leaves) and 1 x lidded tea caddy.
'Coaching Days' was introduced in 1905 and originally designed by Victor Venner (number 3804).
The style of the backstamp suggest these are quite early versions of the series (1905-1922)
CONDITION This set is 100 or more years old and qualifies for antique status. However, I in spite of the age of the set it is in generally good condition with just three small 'scars' to reflect its long life apart from the usual age-related light crazing in the glaze. We notice a tiny nick in the spout of the teapot, a small slither chip on the inside of the large milk jug pourer and a tiny poss of the green trim on the rim of the small jug. These are minor imperfections after such a long life but our asking price takes them into account.
PRICING
Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre or on what similar pieces have been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things! We try to be realistic.
You will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices and the current market. We are always willing to consider realistic offers.
