Meet Scruff, a very hard to find, old comical mohair dog with no label but almost certainly made by Schuco and dating to around the 1950s/60s.
He is exactly the same design as Schuco's Bigo Bello "Tramp" dog that they made for Disney, from the Disney film "The Lady And The Tramp". However, their Tramp is a greyish colour, and with his distinctive black and white markings Scruff is not like any of the characters from either that film or any of the other Disney films, so I think he is possibly an experimental prototype.
He is 11" high and has very unusual eyes, googly but made from glass. His plastic nose is quirky too, a little off-centre which adds to his appeal.
His black mohair is in excellent, bright and non faded condition.
His white mohair is very worn around his forehead and muzzle but in good condition elsewhere.
His inner ears are made from velvet and his mouth is felt.
His only real flaw is that his front legs are very wobbly indeed, hence the photos being taken with his tummy propped up a bit. However this sort of adds to his appeal rather than distracting from it.
He is a delightful little fella, a real treasure, clean and sweet smelling, who will make a lovely addition to any old bear collection.
