Item:292820996379Rare 18th c silk embroidered Stomacher/Bodice/Dress Front/Costume accessory 1780. This is a beautiful & rare 18thc Stomacher / Dress / Bodice front made up in around the 1780's from earlier fabrics making it very interesting & special. The main part of the ' V ' shaped stomacher has been re-used from an earlier piece - probably a gentleman's silk coat or waistcoat c 1770 which had been hand embroidered in coloured silks with wonderful flowers & foliage onto a background of ribbed silk with vibrant blue lines. It has been completed using other fabrics to the lower edges - two wonderful strips of block printed linen c1750 ( these would have been hidden when the dress was in place ) There is a binding of blue silk all around & the lining is another beautiful & interesting early 1750's fabric of striped coarse linen. Condition is very good for age - the embroidery is excellent. The blue binding is time worn - see photos & the striped lining is a bit grubby but there are no holes or damage throughout. It was the norm in the 18thc to re-use fabrics to construct items of wear that would otherwise be too costly to purchase by anyone other than the very rich. Size 10.5 inches long x 10 inches across the top. A wonderful collectors piece. Thank you for looking. Relisted due to buyer not able to access funds - please contact us before bidding if you have less than 10 positive feedbacks
