Item:264431130330Hello and welcome to our auction for this Extremely rare and stunning Victorian “Gothic revival gilt brass mantle clock” This is an impressive and large late 19th century quarter chiming gilt brass bronze clock, in great original condition. The clock casing is a fairly serious study of gothic architecture, combined with a more fanciful romantic vision of Mediaeval ideas, with a mixture of mice, a lion, serpents and a porcupine all adding to the splendid decoration. Gothic buildings of the 12th to 16th centuries were a major source of inspiration to 19th-century designers. This fabulous clock has all the architectural elements, such as the pointed arches, steep-sloping roof and decorative tracery which were applied to a wide range of Gothic Revival objects - and actually looks like a miniature building. Measures approx 24.5 inches tall. This is in working condition, although it will need a service as it stops ticking after a while. I am happy to have this serviced for high bidder which will cost an additional £60. Please email and questions and thanks for looking.Material:Gilt, Style/ Origin/ Theme:Victorian
