A rare English Victorian solid sterling silver tinder or vesta box. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1899 with the makers mark being rubbed. It has been superbly designed having a sprung lid i.e. opens automatically once the button has been pressed – it works perfectly. The exterior has a striker to one end the interior is richly gilded and unusually has a small shelve to the back. The lid has been engraved with the initials CDA. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. It measures a touch over 3 inches (7.7cms) long by over 1.5 inches (4cms) wide by 0.75 inch (1.8cms) tall. It is made from thick gauge silver and as such weighs 100 grams. A beautifully made high quality rare piece.
