Powell Bishop & Stonier MIKADO Aesthetic
Movement Scalloped Plates ~ Set of 6
Offering a gorgeous and
rare set of six (6) porcelain plates by Powell, Bishop & Stonier, in the Mikado
pattern, circa 1878. A beautiful example from the Aesthetic Movement, the transfer
pattern on cream depicts branches and flowers with different geometric shapes
finished on a gilt scalloped rim. Each plate shows a different transferred design with enameled highlights. Backs
are stamped with the impressed Caduceus (registered by Powell & Bishop in
1878), an impressed triangle in circle, circa 1878, The ORIENTAL IVORY stamp,
registered in 1880, and the pattern stamp MIKADO
PB & S and hand written in red 8855 T
Each measures 8 ¾” in
diameter
Plates are in good
antique condition though please note the following: two of the plates have
small chips to the underside rim (one plate has 1 chip and significant crazing,
the other, 2 small chips.) Plates also show
minor scratching and slight wear to the transfer pattern and gold rim
commensurate with age and use
