Seller: antiquemapsprints (15.799) 100%, Location: Dover, New Hampshire, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 142417944819 A CONTRAST (Native costumes - life styles- umbrellas- sea- dog- children- reading a book- wheel chair) Issued ca. 1850-65 era. (no date or source known for the print which was acquired loose) Lovely mid-19th century engraved print. Note the curious bicycle-like wheel chair (?) them woman sits in! This particular type of engraved printing process was very laborious, involving long-apprenticed highly trained hand artisans. It also involved challenging hand-operated machinery, inking of plates, sheets of paper individually hung to dry, skill, patience, and other endless tasks and labor. Because of these and various other factors, this old printed leaf is an interesting original artifact from a long past moment in printing. CONDITION: Please view scan closely as it allows for a close zoom inspection. This scan is much better than any words and we suggest it should take precedence over our verbal description. [note: We grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws. We are doing our best to show & describe this item so you are happy when it arrives]. In lightly age worn condition, sheet lightly age toned -- overall still quite clean, fresh, nice impression and appealing visually. Could readily be displayed or collected. In all, remains a charming antique printed image any collector, dealer, person of taste or institution would be pleased to own. Sheet measures c. 8 1/8" W x 5 3/8" H. Engraved area measures c. 6 3/4" W x 4 1/2" H. [E20051] We encourage you to print this description to keep with the image. It serves as an informal but valid Certificate of Authenticity for as long as you own it. --------------------------------------------- Peasants & affluent bike Wheel chair dog ca. 1850's era ethnic antique print A CONTRAST (Native costumes - life styles- umbrellas- sea- dog- children- reading a book- wheel chair) Issued ca. 1850-65 era.
