DESCRIPTION -   A pair of genuine antique mid 19th century tinted lithograph prints b y t he Scottish artist   David Roberts R.A.  (1796-1864). 'Remains Of Triumphal Arch At Petra' and 'Scene On The Quay Suez' below the image respectively.  Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Lith. The Holy Land set, which this print is from, was re-issued in 1879 by Cassell & Company.   From David Roberts' 'The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, & Nubia', the first quarto edition published by Day & Son. 1855 - 56. The Scottish artist David Roberts (1796-1864) was the first British artist to sketch the fantastic monuments of ancient Egypt. In the course of two and a half months in 1838, travelling some 800 miles south from Cairo, David Roberts recorded the monumental temple sites along the Nile in more than a hundred sketches. In 1839 he undertook the second part of his journey, leaving Cairo in the company of two friends, travelling through Suez, Mount Sinai and Petra, and continuing on up  through the Holy Land and into modern day Lebanon. Having visited the most remarkable places from Dan to Beersheba, he finally returned home after some eleven months. Photographed in natural daylight without the use of digital enhancements.  APPROX SIZE of visible image 7.25" x 5.25" and 12" x 9.25" including mount and frame. CONDITION - In good clean condition with some general age toning. With some minor age related marks to frame   - please see photos to satisfy yourself as to condition as they form part of the description.  I do my best to describe all faults but am not infallible so please do not make a purchase unless you are totally happy regarding the condition.  .
