Name: Phareodus testis Age: Eocene Formation: Green River Formation Location: Kemmerer, Wyoming Size: Frame is 10.3" x 12.8", fish is 6.8" long!
This is a fabulous fossil fish. It is a large, detailed Phareodus testis from the Eocene of Wyoming. This type of fish has a very wide body and two large fins near the tail. This killer fish is beautifully preserved and exhibits outstanding detail. The bone structure is clearly defined, and the fins are wonderfully displayed. Even the scale pattern is partially intact, which is quite unusual. The sharply-pointed teeth in the open mouth are just awesome - they are easily seen with the naked eye! The striking fish has excellent natural color and contrast and is wonderfully showcased on the large plate of shale. And the fossil has been professionally framed for optimal display...WOW! This is a top quality and very collectible framed example of this predatory fish from the Fossil Lake deposits.
