Though obviously far less detailed than the large scale maps for which we are perhaps better known, they provide an invaluable overview of a wider area, typically 18 miles across by 12 miles down. For transport historians they are invaluable for showing old railways, while all historians need them for their close depiction of topography, including parish boundaries. This map is a must for the historian, genealogist and anyone interested in the local history of Salisbury Plain & Vale of Pewsey between 1891 and 1901 census period. This reprint is taken from the Ordnance Survey one inch map 282 as revised in 1896. Coverage is the area from Devizes southward to Bulford, and eastward to Pewsey. Much of Salisbury Plain is included and on the reverse included is a detailed map of the 'lost village' of Imber, commandeered for military use in 1943, with the villagers given 47 days to leave - never to return. Additional information from seller: Imber, Bell Inn, Imber Court, Tinker's Farm, Parsonage Farm, Vicarage, St Giles's Church, grave yard, school, Brown's Farm, East Farm.
