Item:352469120855Cerrigydrudion, Corwen & District 1904 - One Inch Sheet E 120This folded map which measures approximately 24" x 18" when unfolded is produced by Alan Godfrey and covers an area of about 18 miles by 12 miles. It shows railways, roads and canals, and gives a broad view of a wider area. It also includes an introduction and a more detailed map of a small town or village. This Inch to the Mile map covers Corwen and the area to the west, a region divided between Denbighshire and Merioneth. Apart from Corwen there are no towns and few sizeable villages. Author Derrick Partt tells us that it was an area that 19th century travellers "contemptuously dismissed" as "little more than huddles of poor houses beaded erratically along Telford's Holyhead Road". But there is always much of interest on a one-inch map, including here stretches of long lost railways, and the Alwen Valley which was soon to be flooded for a reservoir. Much of the land is mountain and moorland, with some of the Berwyn Mountains and the Denbigh Moors or Mynydd Hiraethog. On the reverse we include an extract from Merioneth sheet 15.15, showing Llandrillo in more detail, complete with directory. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on this map. The towns and principal villages or church parishes that are included on this map are:Denbighshire: Cerrig-y-Druidion, Clocaenog, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, Llangym, Pentre Foelas, Yspytty-ifan.Merionethshire: Bettws-Gwerfil-Goch, Corwen, Gwyddelwern, Llandderfel, Llandrillo, Llangar. It will be posted in a board backed envelope to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition. WE HAVE AN EXTENSIVE CATALOGUE OF CD'S OF OLD DIRECTORIES SUCH AS KELLYS, PIGOTS & WHITES THAT ARE A VALUABLE RESEARCH RESOURCE OF USE TO LOCAL HISTORIANS & GENEALOGISTS. PLEASE VISIT OUR EBAY SHOP TO SEE OUR CURRENT LISTINGS. NB: We are unable to do searches of maps. We stock almost 3000 maps covering the UK and unfortunately do not have the "local" knowledge of the area concerned and trying to find specific streets etc is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack unless you know where to look. All our maps have descriptions of the area shown so we suggest a bit of research should be able to narrow it down.Condition:Brand New, County:Denbighshire, Cartographer/Publisher:Alan Godfrey Maps, Original/Reproduction:Modern Reproduction, Country/Region:UK, Format:Sheet Map, Type:Ordnance Survey Map, Year:1904
