Flightless Fruit Fly Culture

Our Flightless Fruit Fly Cultures are created by us in a modern, ethical facility in the UK, offering exceptional value for money as they are coming straight from us, the breeder. They are raised on a high quality diet in optimal conditions and freshness is guaranteed as standard. 

Flightless Fruit Flies are genetically bred to be incapable of flying. They are the perfect size for feeding to dart frogs, mantids and other invertebrates such as spiderlings. Also ideal for feeding to hatchling chameleons and other dwarf lizard species. 

On arrival, the Fruit Flies may appear immobile if temperatures are low but will soon become active when warm again. They will be delivered to you in a plastic pot with a sponge stopper in the top and wood wool for the flies to cling to. The wood wool provides a dry area for the flies to lay their eggs upon. You will not need to feed the flies as the pot contains a specially blended food formula. This food ensures the maggots have the nutrients required to grow and the flies are as nutritious as possible prior to feeding them to your pets. 

Fruit Flies are best stored at room temperature around 15-24°C, this will encourage the flies to begin breeding and kick start the culture. 

To ensure the culture provides large numbers of flies, it is important to leave the culture unopened until you see maggots. It can take a few weeks to mature new cultures; if the adults provided aren’t given the chance to breed, the culture will fail to yield any more flies. If you require large numbers of flies, we suggest buying several tubs over the course of a few weeks. You will have a constant supply to harvest by staggering cultures created at different times, this works well for keepers of dart frogs and those keeping large numbers of mantids.
