These really are superb boxes, as you can see from the photographs. The sewing boxes are made from the most exquisite Rosewood which has the most superb grain and it then has the stunning and finely detailed marquetry to all fours sides and the top of the boxes. The only small difference between the boxes is that on the lid the centre panels have a flat panel on one box and a curved panel on the other and a slight difference in the marquetry inlays on these panels. It is possible that they were made with this subtle difference so the boxes could be distinguished from each other, the interiors have also been finished in different colours. It has a stunning interior, which incorporates a letter folder to the inside of the lid which can be dropped down by swinging the catch over. There is then a tray which contains various sections, lidded compartments and pin cushions. This tray then lifts out to give access to a compartment below. The quality of this box is exceptional. The exterior is beautifully brass bound and there is a nicely shaped plate to the key hole and the top of the box. The box is complete with it's original lock (no key), When the lid is lifted this reveals the purple velvet tooled writing slope. The top is then released by a catch to give access to a compartments which has been nicely polished. The bottom section of the writing slope contains two ink bottle compartment with their ink bottles. Then there is a stamp slide to one side and a lidded compartment to the other. To access the bottom compartments which has been nicely polished, the bottom section of the slope is lifted. The secret drawers are located behind a polished panel. To access the secret drawers, the ink bottle to the right (if you are looking at the box with the secret drawer panel in front of you as shown in the photographs) is lifted out. Then you press down on the bottom of the compartment in the top right corner. This allows the covering plate to be released. These secret drawers are lovely quality as can be seen from the photographs and have nice little turned knobs. DIMENSIONS:The approximate dimensions are: - 13 inches / 33 cm long- 9.75 inches / 25 cm deep- 7.75 inches / 19.5 cm high on box with flat top and 8 inches / 20 cm high on box with curved top AGE:The sewing boxes are Regency.
