Seller: commits (9.133) 98.9%, Location: Yucaipa, California, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 202773276583 We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our other items! This is an outstanding find of an absolutely stunning, mint condition or lightly used, large, deeply hand carved music and dancers, animated waterwheel and woodchopper wooden chalet cuckoo clock that was created about 15 years ago in the Black Forest of Tittisee Neustadt, "Germany" by "David Hones," one of the finest clock makers in this region of the world. This clock is pristine, uniquely designed, deeply carved, and was looks very much like a working wood mill like many that used to dot the landscape of the Black Forest. It is complete with fancy wooden eaves under the roofline and below the dance balcony too. There are colorful Edelweiss flowers lavished on these as well as the lower platform. The waterwheel actually has paddles and a wooden roof cover. There is a stack of hewn lumber on the left side of the lower balcony, simulated boulders too, a stack of kindling, wooden logs ready to be split and more logs under a wooden roof cover on the right side. There is a man holding a hatchet while standing over a stump with a couple of pieces of kindling. Just behind him is a nice looking tree and wooden shutters flanking the window just over his head...just a beautiful clock! The wooden dial features a black backdrop with wooden numerals to mark the hours and a rare set of matching, fancy wooden hands to point out the time. The phrase, "Made in Germany" is found on the lower dial and there is a stamped label found under the case identifying this as a genuine Black Forest clock. And there is a factory label from David Hones attached to the clock by a string. There is a wooden door at the very back secured with two metal latches. The door easily removes to allow access to the all metal, weight driven movement produced by "Regula" and bearing the Hones name. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, cuckoo, music, and animation activities. The bellow whistle tubes are intact and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wooden bird opens the wooden door above the dance platform near the top and stands in the doorway. The bird gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled chime inside the case and the woodchopper swinging his axe before the bird retreats back inside the clock and closing the door. Once he is safely back inside, the waterwheel begins to turn, the dance floor begins to turn too and the dance couples spin about while a high quality, "Swiss Romance" music box plays a wonderful rendition of "Der Frohliche Wanderer" (Happy Wanderer), one of the most popular tunes ever created. The dancers and waterwheel stop when the music stops and they wait until the next half hour. Then, at the top of each hour, the bird appears again and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours while the woodchopper chops his wood. When the bird is through, he retreats to the safe confines of the clock. Then the waterwheel turns again, the dance floor begins to turn as well and the dancers spin about and this time the Swiss music box plays a lovely rendition of "Edelweiss," one of the most recognized tunes ever created from the Sound of Music. When the music stops, the dancers do too and so does the waterwheel...everything waits for the next half hour to resume the dance; absolutely fascinating! The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, cuckoos/chimes accurately, and the music is just heavenly! It also has another fine feature. There is a metal lever on the left side of the case in front that allows you to enable or disable the cuckoo, chime, and music feature as you wish...nice thing to have when company is over or if you have a light sleeper in the house. I've looked the clock over fairly well and can't find any missing pieces or repairs and only little signs of use. Keep in mind that even though it looks fairly new and the movement does show signs of maintenance, it is an old clock and we don't know the service history. It is a very impressive clock and the ideal size too measuring about 12" or so high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6 1/2" at its deepest point, and about 10" at its widest point. We recommend servicing this clock and just about any vintage or antique clock at least once every three years. Doing so will keep a classic clock like this one, healthy for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with three sets of attached metal chains, a carved wooden chalet pendulum with a hand painted Edelweiss flower and branch, and three heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. This clock is in a class all by itself and is certain to be the focal point of any collection. Any guests in your home or office will be more than pleased to see and hear this rare, fascinating German timepiece in action. Bid with all confidence; I have no doubt that you will love this clock!
