You are bidding for a very attractive looking American, Visible Escapement, 8 day, Gong Strike, late Victorian Marble Mantel Clock with Green Variegated conglomerate marble and Gilt inlays.
The clock has a very heavy decorative cast bezel door fitted with a bevelled glass. This encloses an attractive ceramic dial and centre showing off the exposed visible escapement that has ruby jewel pallets. The dial is marked Manufactured by the Ansonia Clock Co, New York,United States of America.
The clock strikes the gong once on the half hour and the number of hours on the hour.
The American movement backplate is stamped with the Maker’s mark, Ansonia Clock Co. Patented June 14.81, New York, USA. There is also a number 5 stamped on the backplate.
The movement is in reasonable working condition, the case and gilt work have been refinished for a pleasant glossy finish, some nibbles exist in the case commensurate with its over 120 year age.
When fully wound it runs for more than 8 days but sold as an 8 day clock with reasonable timekeeping for its age.
The clock is supplied complete with its original pendulum and a key.
