The Ø 47 thermal unit BIG DEPS 4 mhr combines the best aspects of BIG DEPS thermal units with absolutely innovative and unique features. SEALS

The gasket envelope is enriched with a specific 0.5 mm gasket in ANNEALED COPPER, specifically designed for the new head. This material has a higher thermal transmission coefficient than aluminum and, therefore, transmits a greater amount of heat from the combustion chamber to the cooling fins, keeping the temperatures in the chamber more controlled. A greater permeability to the heat flow also allows to avoid the danger of overheating of the gasket itself and increases its duration over time, also avoiding leakage of the mixture out of the head.


PISTON

For the correct sizing of the entire thermal group, our technicians have studied a new version of the historic Ø 47 piston equipped with a single sealing band, also made with the most modern technologies. The single band allows you to maintain the same standard of sealing and pressure insulation, but with lower friction, to the benefit of performance and durability.


DRAIN CONNECTOR

The exhaust union uses the same strategy as the other versions: a steel fitting with a housing for OR fits into the seat obtained in the cylinder and is held in position by a flange, also in aluminium, made by high precision laser cutting and fixed with 4 screws. With this system, no matter how much power the engine can produce, our exhaust will not unscrew and will not yield even in extreme conditions!


HEAD

An absolute novelty: the detail that makes the new thermal unit even more unique! Malossi technicians have invested a lot of energy to create an innovative head with unique characteristics.


 

FEATURES

  1. Profiled fins to channel the flow of cooling air and make it flow along the hottest surfaces, thus optimizing the heat exchange and, consequently, the outflow of heat from the combustion chamber to prevent it from reaching dangerous temperature levels.
  2. Additional lateral fins to direct the greatest possible amount of heat from the combustion chamber towards the outside of the cylinder and make the most of every single fin, even the external ones, which are furthest from the heat source and therefore less efficient and less involved in the disposal action.
  3. Central structure strengthened radially, starting from the center of the combustion chamber, to significantly increase the general resistance of the structure itself and contain the deformations due to the elongation of the aluminum at engine operating temperatures. By reducing the deformations, the contact between the head and the cylinder is always and constantly on one plane and guarantees the isolation of the combustion chamber from the external environment, eliminating any possible source of leakage or leakage towards the outside.
  4. Spark plug perfectly centered in the combustion chamber. By centralizing the spark and making the whole washing chain (intake and exhaust transfers) symmetrical with respect to the cylinder and directed along a single axis, without harmful curvatures of the flow of fresh and burnt gases, an exceptionally smooth combustion was obtained, developed in line straight line on the top of the piston crown. The greater performance, due to the optimization of the washing, trapping and combustion efficiency, has been paired with an optimization and optimal distribution of the efforts derived both from the pressure of the expanding gases and from the inertial forces of the kinematics of the crank mechanism, better tolerated by the engine bearing structures.
  5. In the lower part there is an additional finning which, facilitated by a fin extended to the opposite side to create a bulkhead, is able to channel the flow of air towards the finned part. This solution makes it possible to make the most of every surface of the head, directing the heat flow away from the combustion chamber.
  6. Adequately sized domes integrated into the geometry of the head with a support surface for the fixing nuts machined to obtain surfaces with low roughness.
  7. The old fixing system with nuts and washers has been improved with the use of modern flanged hexagonal nuts, much more comfortable and functional.
  8. The central dome houses a flanged hex head screw with which the valve lifter for the decompressor supplied in the kit is fixed.
  9. A slot made in front of the seat for the valve lifter and a retainer integral with the structure of the head, located in the rear part, allow the housing and correct fixing of the cable for moving the decompressor both on vehicles such as the Ciao and the "Si" and "Good boy".
