Rare.. In superb boxed condition Marklin z 88290 Steam Tank Locomotive. Loco has been in storage and is in as new condition, running very smoothly, certificate and paperwork included. One Time Only for Insider Members 2004. German State Railroad Company (DRG) class Re 2x4/4 Heavy Freight Locomotive. This version of the loco was for the Transportation Exhibitions of 1924 in Seddin & 1925 in Munich. Completely new tooling, 5 pole motor, both groups of driving axles pivot & all coupled driving axles are powered. LED lighting, Steel Blue colour scheme for the Transportation Exhibitions of 1924/25. Length over buffers 81mm. When the first Gt 2x4/4 were delivered in 1913 they were the most powerful steam locomotives of their time, despite low axle load and high maneuverability they brought a previously unachievable tractive effort to the track, they mastered heavy freight trains on  steep Bavarian routes without helper engines which accelerated traffic considerably and made it more economical. This was due to the Mallet design whereby the front group of driving wheels were powered by high pressure cylinders and the back group by low pressure cylinders. The back group of wheels were installed in a rigid frame & the front group could swing out this allowed the loco to run on branch line curves. In 1922 a second group of 10 units were taken over by the DRG as the class 96, these later versions had design improvements to the cylinders and boiler which increased their power by 10%.
