A quite spectacular and large antique sterling silver lidded tankard that has been converted into a water jug or beer jug. The decoration and the spout were added during the Victorian period, the detail is quite superb and so detailed.
It has a very interesting inscription to the front.
It is fully hallmarked to lid and base, Sterling silver, London 1769
The makers mark is I*M which can be attributed to several silversmiths of the time.
The spout is hallmarked for London 1866 with the mark of Robert Hennell.
It is in an excellent condition being free from any damage, deep scratching or thin spots.
No inscriptions past or present.
The inside is in good order.
The hinge is perfect working order.
Stands steady and true.
It has just been professionally polished so it is free from any denting or scratching.
