It is a beautiful piece, featuring one of the most classic American magazine covers. There is no information on either the front or the back side (which is blank), regarding publishing information or the date these were made. But identical versions of these prints in plaque form came out in 1974, so that would indicate these were made at the same time. It is in very good undisplayed condition, with no pinholes, tears, or other major wear commonly seen on vintage posters or prints, and measures approximately 10 1/4" by 14 1/4". It's on a cardstock type of paper, which is flexible, but thick enough that it can't really be rolled. Liberty Magazine began its run as one of America's great magazines on May 10, 1924. The first issue hit the newsstands with the cover billing itself as "A Weekly Periodical for Everyone". Founded with backing from the famous Chicago Tribune newspaper (and I believe also possibly the New York Daily News), the mag would run for a quarter of a century (from 1924-1950), and with a weekly circulation of several million, came to rank with the other prestigious mags such as The Saturday Evening Post, The Ladies Home Journal, McCall's, Colliers, The Literary Digest, Cosmopolitan, and more. While coming to be mentioned and acknowledged among the well-known and well-respected periodicals, Liberty was also regarded by many as having more exciting content, a more daring edge, and often considered more topical as well. Featuring a wide variety of topics, Liberty touched on everything from fashion to politics to art, entertainment, and more. The content of Liberty featured some of the most important individuals from the first half of the 20th century, with writers such as Rudyard Kipling, H.G. Wells, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Leo Tolstoy, Robert Benchley, John Dos Passos, Fannie Hurst, Dashiell Hammett, H.L. Mencken, Agatha Christie, George Bernard Shaw, Irving Wallace, Leo Tolstoy, Erle Stanley Gardner, and more. The art displayed in Liberty featured work by artists such as Neysa McMein, Peter Arno, John Held Jr., Saul Steinberg, McClelland Barclay, Harold Von Schmidt, John Clymer, James Montgomery Flagg, Frank Godwin, Wallace Morgan, Coles Phillips, Leslie Thrasher, Ralph Barton, and others. And giants from the worlds of politics, sports, and more, were also featured, such as Babe Ruth, Winston Churchill, Clark Gable, Harry Houdini, Groucho Marx, Knute Rockne, Albert Einstein, Flo Ziegfeld, Eleanor Roosevelt, Greta Garbo, Al Capone, Walter Winchell, Dorothy Parker, Mahatma Gandhi, and others. Truly a comprehensive look at America, Liberty was one of the great publications, and the cover featured on this rare print symbolizes much of that. The cover is a perfect image of Golden Age 20th century Americana illustration art, and would be a fantastic display piece. It features the classic image by well-known artist Leslie Thrasher of two youngsters huddled together under a large umbrella and "Singing in the Rain". This is probably one of the great items you can possess as a Liberty fan, and likely one of the hardest to find. These prints are incredibly difficult to find, and very rarely surface for sale. Don't miss a rare opportunity to add this fantastic piece to your collection. Payment to be made within 7 days of auction close. International buyers please contact us for terms before bidding.
