Seller: talyinka (844) 97.6%, Location: Loughborough, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 273825445846 Imposing 19th Century Onyx Clock garniture adorned by Guillemain's sculpture Passage du gué and two others by Auguste Moreau, French 8-day Japy Movement with Hourly and Half-Hourly Strike, Floral Enamel Dial A high quality Victorian (belle époque) mantel clock from around 1890, featuring a well cast, cold-painted central figurine on an onyx base with a two similar figurative side garnitures It is original, including key and pendulum as far as it is possible to ascertain It includes a top quality Japy movement - a pearl in any house Eight-day Pendule de Paris movement with hourly and half-hourly bell strike Circular enamelled dial with Latin numerals and a hand-painted floral decoration - very good condition The case is in very good condition with a bit of the usual air-borne acid-induced corrosion to some of the veins in the onyx Original Japy movement (numbers correspond) - trade mark (photo) used in the 1890s (or thereabouts, reliable documentation is scarce) This is an extremely beautiful clock which has been on display in my own home for some time, reliable and a good time-keeper Some restoration and full conservation using best practice methods, including Renaissance Wax treatment, has been carried outRepair of a small chip to base of one garniture has been judged unlikely to result in a good outcome (see last photo - further details in the Restoration Report) The movement has been fully serviced, including new mainsprings.
