For sale is a very large Antique 18th to early 19th century American hand blown flip Glass with a polished Open Pontil mark at the base, a good indicator for its old age.
Flip glass is very popular glassware for early American tavern life. It ranges greatly in size. It is used to hold an old time liquor drink made with sugar and spices to warm travelers body. See a few historic recipe in photos. A large specimen like this one would be used to mix the drink in large batches and then pour into smaller cups.
Like most early American hand blown glass, the flip glass often includes an occasional bubble or two and may have uneven whirling patterns. These imperfections makes old glass has a beautiful and unique look compare to modern factory made ones.
It measures approximately 8” tall and 6” in diameter at the rim. There is no chips, cracks, or any other damages to the item. Excellent condition! Age appropriate wears (especially on the base) are to be expected. Please check all photos for detailed condition.
