Marti movement with hourly and half-hourly strike and rare visible Brocot escapement brought through the dial Silver dedication plaque dated January 1870 The inscription on the dedication plaque reads: Presented by the ratepayers of the Parish of Oadby To Mr John Cartwright in Memory of his late Father as a tribute of their high esteem and regard and in recognition of his Services as Guardian of the poor of this Parish for 30 Years January 1870. (This is of course a very moving inscription considering the Poor Law Amendment of 1834) A high quality and expensive Victorian mantel clock from around 1868-9 It is original, including pendulum, as far as it is possible to ascertain It includes a top quality S. Marti movement - a pearl in any house Circular enamelled dial and chapter ring with Roman numerals - very good condition with a few hairlines The case is in very good condition with a few inconspicuous repairs, including cracks behind the dedication plaque Original S.
