Seller: singeldad (16.935) 100%, Location: Lafayette, California, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 311927201042 HERE’S AN IMPORTANT ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1950S OR 1960S MODERN ABSTRACT SILVER-WIRE & ENAMEL-ON-SILVER MUSEN CLOISONNE PLAQUE CREATED BY JAPANESE CLOISONNE ARTIST HIROAKI OTA (1913-1991) THAT DISPLAYS OTA’S MODERNIST INTERPRETATION OF MT. FUJI! Please Note: This unique vintage midcentury modernist abstract silver-wire and enamel-on-silver plaque is still mounted in its original wooden frame and also has the original artist’s and/or gallery label on the backside. The silver-wire and enamel-on-silver plaque itself measures approximately seven inches (7”) in height by nine and one half inches (9 1/2”) in width. The overall dimensions with the wooden frame are approximately eighteen inches (18”) in height by twenty and one quarter inches (20 1/4”) in width. As you can see from the photos shown above, Hiroaki Ota created an overtly modernistic interpretation of Japan’s famed Mt. Fuji that displays an unevenly-stepped bottom, a purple-to-blue enameled central area, and a snow-capped top area comprised of silver foils and dark-blue enameling. In addition, Ota surrounded Mt. Fuji in an oddly-shaped area of black enameling that has stepped and pointed sides. Within the black enameled area and running across Mt. Fuji is a single curved silver wire that connects to a small sphere on the left side filled with purple-to-blue enameling and a nine-point star on the right side made up of additional silver wires. The sphere and the nine-point star might possibly represent the moon and the sun. There are also two groupings of silver wires set into the black enameling above Mt. Fuji that might be an abstract representation of clouds and wind or rain. The areas around the outer perimeter that do not have any enameling are actually showing the silver base metal. It should also be noted that the plaque itself has a convex shape (meaning it is slightly domed). Signed in the bottom right corner with Hiroaki Ota’s silver character seal. Again, there is an original artist’s and/or gallery label on the backside (please see photos). Condition: The silver-wire and enamel-on-silver plaque is absolutely beautiful – no damage whatsoever – only some minor tarnish to the silver areas around the outer perimeter! The wooden frame is generally in excellent and clean condition with only a few minor scuffs. Please scroll down to read the artist’s biography!
