For sale here is :
The famous (perhaps infamous given the almost unbelievable nature of the error) "lost" page 22a from Tintin in the Picaros presented in a folder and signed personally by Herge. You can read the story on the photo showing the back of the page plate in English, French and Flemish, but basically the story goes that Tintin and the Picaros was ready to go into production in the standard book form when it was realised at the last minute that 63 pages had been produced rather than the standard 62. Therefore the story had to be reduced by one page and the easiest way of doing this was by cutting the sequence where Colonel Sponz throws down his glass and it bounces up and breaks the famous moustache of his great leader Kurvi-Tasche. Therefore as a rather tongue in cheek way of celebrating what must at the time have been an embarrassing error, a number of the extra pages were printed and presented in a folder signed by Herge to members of the Studio Herge team, publishing colleagues etc. I've been told that there were only 400 produced but I haven't been able to verify that number. So far I have only ever seen one other copy that was sold at auction, so it certainly must be rare.
Provenance is always very important when buying original signed items and in this case appears to be good. I bought this from a gentleman in Belgium who have bought it from a Belgian Comic and autograph dealer, who had in turn bought it from a former Studio Herge employee who had been given it at the time it was issues. In addition to the information given to me, I have checked the auction copy I mentioned and this appears to be exactly the same from the photos, I have also carefully checked the Herge signature and this matches on all points with other signatures I know to be genuine. I therefore guarantee that this item is genuine and will provide a certificate of authenticity to that effect - if, for any reason, you should not be entirely satisfied with the item when you receive it, you may return for a full refund.
