Last year much to our delight, we had the opportunity to purchase a large collection which included one item we wanted: an elusive small Bellevue coffee pot which we did not have in our collection. We drove 1100 miles and spent 2 nights in a hotel to get that beauty since the seller specified local pick-up only. The Bellevue is in excellent condition and is displayed beside our Bellevue teapot. Most of the rest of the set which includes kitchenware and some dinnerware are also in excellent condition. We are now ready to sell the rest since we don't need duplicates! DESCRIPTION: This features the shiny, bright, unusual russet color. The inside is a bright, clean ivory porcelain. Hall introduced the ribbed russetware kitchenware in 1935. The color was named russet and was produced and eventually replaced by the more popular solid red. CONDITION: The condition of this set is excellent. We can find no defects and no damage. This looks brand new despite its age of 65+ years! There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches or hairlines. As is true with most Hall produced in this time era, on the inside rim there is a spot where the slip was trimmed at an angle and this was glazed over at the factory. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. (We are very picky Hall collectors and would be proud to have this in our collection!) DIMENSIONS: The marmite has a diameter of 5" while handle to handle is 5 5/8". It has a height of 3 5/8" to the top of the lid. HISTORY/MARKS: When the East Liverpool Potteries Company was dissolved in 1903, Robert Hall, one of the principals, formed Hall China Company. After his untimely death in 1904, his young son, Robert Taggert Hall took over and made it his mission to rediscover the long lost process from the Ming Dynasty of producing a non-lead based glazed china using a single fire process. He succeeded by 1911 creating the craze-proof finish for which Hall China became famous for over 100 years. Hall China remained in the extended Hall family until they merged with Homer Laughlin China Company across the river in Newell, West Virginia, the manufacturer of Fiesta. Hall China is still in production today operating in their original facility on Anna Avenue. The mark on the bottom of this item is the mark that Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer designate as mark #6 in their book, Collector's Encyclopedia of Hall China, 3rd edition. This mark was used from the 1932-1970. It also has the word "HALL" incised in hand written large block letters. The ribbed Russetware design was introduced in 1935. It was available for purchase in the Sears catalog for 49 cents in 1935! Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing.
