I have listed for your perusal a Very Fine Antique 19th Century Grand Tour Specimen Marble Desk/Paperweight Circa 1860-1900.
This piece was constructed from and displays 42 Different Types of Colourful Hardstone/Marbles which have been predominately quarried in and around the countries of Italy, France and Switzerland since the time of the Ancient Romans. Many pieces such as this impressive piece were made specifically for the Grand Tour Souvenir trade and were sold to many affluent foreign visitors in places like Rome, Florence, Naples and Venice during the middle and latter part of the 19th century.
This particular piece includes specimen cuts of marble varieties of which are very rare today. A larger piece than a normal size desk weight this one measures 15.5cm x 10.1cm x 6.4cm and weighs 1.262kg and is very striking.
This weight has been a part of my own Grand Tour Collection for over 30 years
Condition is excellent apart from a couple of un-prominent minor chips, please see all pictures listed as they all combined go a very long way towards the items complete description. And yes! It was me who applied the green felt surface protection pads to its base.
