Main Description These fine George II sterling silver casters have a baluster form onto a circular spreading foot. This original antique pair consists of a large and small caster, both embellished in the same style. Each sugar caster retains the original pierced decorated domed hallmarked push fit cover. The covers are surmounted with impressive silver finials. Each caster is encircled with a plain girdle. A contemporary engraved crest of a stag statant below an earl's coronet and supported by two cupidesque figures is displayed to one side of each caster. These fine antique sterling silver sugar casters are exceptional examples of their type, and have a lovely feel while in the hand. Condition These George II casters are an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each base, and part hallmarks struck to one cover are all very clear. The maker's mark struck to the cover of the smaller caster is rubbed. The maker's mark struck to the base of the smaller caster overlaps the duty hallmark, though this does not detract from the general quality of the marks. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these items.
