Item:362717912401ANTIQUE SUB-MINIATURE FRENCH BRASS CARRIAGE CLOCK*. JUST RESTORED AND SERVICED (JULY 2019). IT HAS A FITTED KEY. * In the banner picture, I have shown the clock alongside a standard sized carriage clock (left) and a miniature clock (centre), for size comparison purposes. The clock for auction now is the smaller of the three on the right. I am retired and have been restoring antique and vintage clocks for nearly 40 years. I specialise in carriage clocks. I have had professional horological training. I have just finished restoring this pretty sub-miniature Victorian clock. I removed the dial and carefully cleaned the movement and the small lever escapement. I completely dismantled the case to clean and polish it. Before rebuilding the case, I gave each part a coat of special wax polish to delay the tarnishing process. Clock height with handle folded down 2 3/4 inches (7 cms.); Depth 1 1/2 inches (4 cms.); Width 1 3/4 inches (4.5 cms) CLOCK CASE: Solid brass with thick bevelled glasses to the front, sides and top. It has a solid brass door to the rear. The case has restored beautifully and now has a lustrous antique patina which should last for years before it needs cleaning again. (I can advise as to how best to do this).MOVEMENT: Beautifully engineered in perfect original condition. It is stamped "FRENCH MOVEMENT" on the back plate and S(low) and F(ast) to indicate in which direction to move the index lever to adjust the time keeping. Before cleaning it, I checked it carefully wheel by wheel and was pleased to find that it was in really excellent condition with no apparent wear at all! All the back plate mounting screws have been attractively chromed. The escapement works perfectly and the clock keeps good time.DIAL: The small white enamel-on-copper dial is in perfect condition. It is set off behind an attractive polished silver frame. The roman numerals and the chapter ring are black and crystal clear. The blued steel hands are original and in perfect condition.GLASSES: There are some small unobtusive surface scratches to the right side glass and a small chip to the bevel in the bottom right corner of the left side glass (neither of which in my view, detract from the appearance of the clock). The thick bevelled front glass and the small top glass are in perfect condition, All the glasses are made from high quality "greenish" optical glass. KEY: The clock has a fitted key and an integral winder for adjusting the hands. There is also a fast/slow adjustment lever which is reached through the rear door - which opens and closes with satisfying precision.THIS TINY CARRIAGE CLOCK IS IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION. IT LOOKS REALLY EYE-CATCHING ON DISPLAY, if you can see it - (that's a joke - it IS small!). PACKAGING (new double boxes) & POSTAGE (tracked and insured); UK £10.00; EU £ 20.00 (approx 23 Euros); Elsewhere £30.00.
