The first Ukrainian souvenir banknote of 0 euros, issued in a limited edition of 5,000 pieces, depicts the Golden Gate, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sales will begin on January 13, 2024.

In the 13th century, the walls of the Golden Gate were one of the bastions that stood on the path of the Mongol-Tatar invasion, thereby protecting the countries of Europe. Part of the anthem of Kyiv “How can you not love it, my Kiev!” was also printed on the banknote. and the coat of arms of the Ukrainian capital. The souvenir euro banknotes, designed in purple, resemble the 500 euro banknotes and the size of the 20 euro banknote.

Although it is an unofficial currency and a souvenir banknote, it is made from 100% cotton paper, which is used in the production of real euro banknotes. It also contains many protective elements, such as: watermarks, microprinting, anti-prints, holograms, UV protection elements, and a sensor zone for the visually impaired.

The concept of issuing €0 souvenir banknotes originates from France, where it was created in 2015 by Richard File in collaboration with the Banque Nationale de France and with the permission of the European Central Bank.

Subsequently, this idea was implemented in Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and many other countries, where it was a great success with both the public and collectors.

The main philosophy of the event is to support tourism, popularize the most important cultural and historical monuments in European countries and help in preserving and financing European cultural heritage.

Thanks to limited, numbered and cataloged editions, the €0 souvenir banknotes have become the only souvenir whose price even increases over time for some issues. Some limited editions in Europe cost over 100 euros each after they sell out.
