We are offering for sale an outstanding quality Victorian period silver 4-piece teas

Each piece is expertly chased, has a beautiful baluster form and good hefty weight. These are very high quality pieces with both the cream/milk jug and sugar bowl being gilt (gold-wash) to the interiors.

Each piece is engraved to the cartouche with a horse crest and motto, although the coffee pot has the full coat-of-arms surmounted by the same crest. The motto reads "FESTINA LENTE " (which has the oxymoronic translation "Make haste slowly").

  The cartouche to the other side of each piece bears an engraved cipher and the coffee pot has a full presentation inscription: " Presented to W.A. Plunkett esq. by the Port of London Sanitary Committee as a token of respect and in recognition of his able services as chairman during the year 1885 ".

  MEASUREMENTS :  Coffee pot: 28.5cm (11.25") high. Teapot: 22.5cm (8.8") high. Cream jug: 17cm (6.75") high. Sugar Bowl 15.5cm (6") high, 18cm (7") wide. The capacity of the teapot and coffee pot are both 1500ml (2.5pint). The combined weight of the four pieces is 2200g (70.7 tr.oz.).

  MARKS:  Full set of English hallmarks (guaranteeing Sterling 925 standard silver) for London 1869, made by Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall.

  CONDITION:   Excellent.There is a minor crease to the underside of the coffee pot spout (see final photo), but other than that there is nothing negative to report and the set is in fabulous condition with no dings, dents, repairs etc.
