Each piece is expertly chased, has a beautiful baluster form and good hefty weight. These are very high quality pieces with both the cream/milk jug and sugar bowl being gilt (gold-wash) to the interiors. Each piece is engraved to the cartouche with a horse crest and motto, although the coffee pot has the full coat-of-arms surmounted by the same crest. The motto reads "FESTINA LENTE " (which has the oxymoronic translation "Make haste slowly"). The cartouche to the other side of each piece bears an engraved cipher and the coffee pot has a full presentation inscription: " Presented to W.A. Plunkett esq. by the Port of London Sanitary Committee as a token of respect and in recognition of his able services as chairman during the year 1885 ".
