Seller: Top-Rated Seller kernowmanwatches (1.610) 100%, Location: Newlyn, Penzance, Cornwall, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 392694060416 You are bidding on a very nice antique French 8 day brass striking carriage clock - it does not have any makers name or origin, but from its style and construction it is definitely French. I would say it dates from the late 1800s. It strikes the hours in full and the half hours with a single strike, striking being on a wire gong in the rear of the clock. It has its original compensated lever escapement on a silvered platform. The clock has had a very full service which involved being fully dismantled, including the platform escapement, with jewels removed where possible for cleaning, then having both a manual and ultrasonic clean. Naturally, both springs were removed from their barrels, cleaned and properly lubricated. The clock runs for its full length of wind which is around 8 days and comes with its brass key. The clock is wound and set by this key through the glazed back door. The movement is in nice, original looking condition with just a few, very light, age related marks. The white enamel dial is very good - it does have a faint hairline across the centre, and there are some old repairs to the top corners - these are virtually obscured by the case and the bevel on the glass - please see the detail picture of the worst one. The dial is mounted on a separate brass dial plate. The Roman numerals are nice and clear - the clock has blued steel hands - at some time the hour hand has been repaired. All glasses are bevelled, including the top large oval one, and are excellent with no chips. The brass case is all original with matching internal numbers and in excellent condition - there are just a few small age related marks in places and a couple of small marks on the base at the front where it has had a light knock sometime in its life. A very nice case, considering it is well over 100 years old. The back door closes nicely as it should, the handle is tight and comes up to a nice vertical position from its resting position at the back of the case (it does not come forward past the vertical position), and the clock has a brass baseplate. The case has a nicely polished finish and looks superb. It has been fully dismantled for cleaning - it has not been over polished. This is a clock that looks to have been well looked after in its life. It measures just over 13cm in height to the top of the case, and approximately 18cm to the top of the handle when it is up. The clock has a base width of around 9.5cm, and weighs just uover 1.5kg. I have tried to be very accurate with my description and mention everything I feel the buyer should know, however, please contact me if you have any questions or need any further information. The clock will come with a service report showing what work has been done on the movement, and I will also enclose a set of my clock information sheets, written generally to cover the set-up and maintenance of most types of clock. I will always be happy to give extra specific information if needed. UK mainland 24 hour shipping will be by UPS (excludes Highlands, Islands, N. Ireland and LA postcodes - please contact me first if bidding from these areas for alternative shipping and transit times). The clock will be securely packed to ensure that it reaches you in perfect condition - we always double box. I welcome overseas bidders - the clock will be sent by Royal Mail, fully tracked (if available), or 'Signed For' service. Item No. KMW2101 If you are bidding on any of my other auctions, I will combine postage on multiple items. Items paid for by Paypal will only be sent to the Paypal verified address. All UK items will be sent, unless otherwise stated, by Royal Mail 2nd Class Recorded. All items, if under the maximum weight limit of 2kg when packed, will be sent overseas by Royal Mail Airmail International 'Signed For' service unless otherwise stated. Items are now sent this way to conform to eBay/Paypal regulations that safeguard both the buyer and the seller. This can make the shipping charge, particularly for overseas bidders, higher than possibly expected as the Recorded/Signed For service adds to the UK postage, particularly to the overseas postage. I can accept no responsibility in the very rare event that items get lost in the post, but I will endeavour to do all I can to help the buyer by contacting Royal Mail and getting them to do the necessary search. Please be aware that it is illegal to falsify the value or contents on Customs documentation and under no circumstances will I do this. Overseas buyers are responsible for all duties and taxes, if applicable, that are levied by their Customs.
