Winding
and Setting of Hands.
All
3 winding arbors in the dial must be fully wound each week, they provide the
power for the going, striking
and chiming. To set hands at the correct hour move them forward taking care not
to force them.
Chiming
and Striking. Thes
clocks are fitted with a unique automatic action which swithes off the chime at
11 p.m. untill 7 a.m.,
thus ensuring that the lightest sleeper is not disturbed by the chime at night.
If the clock has been allowed to run down completely, after winding make sure
the night silencer is operating during the correct period 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., if not retard the hands
by 12 hours. To select either of the 2 chimes, Westninster or Whittington, open
the door at the back of the clock an turn indicator knobs on the left of the
back plate of the movement to the position indicated by the arrow for the chime
required. If the clock is required without strike or chime (i.e.silent) press
down the lever which is located by 3 o’clock on the dial, this can be brought
into operation at any time, car should however be taken that the clock is not about
to chime when this put into operation.
To
regulate the clock open the door at the back and move the regulator arm on the
back of the lever escapment at the top of the movement towards “S” if the clock
is gaing and in the opposite direction if it is losing.
This
clock should be oiled regularly by an Experienced Clock Repairer Every 3 or 4 Years.
Signed by one of England's finest clockmakers, "Elliott of London," this 8 day brass movement clock keeps excellent time. The polished case is walnut with burl, the original finish is superb. A brass winding key is original on this British vintage timepiece. Size is 9" wide, 6" deep and 15" tall.
