About Us
The Early Music Shop was formed in 1968 at a time when early music, as we now know it, was in its infancy. We were encouraged in our early years by the late David Munrow and many of his pioneering contemporaries, and it's almost true to say that The Early Music Shop is as old as the early music revival itself. It has certainly contributed to the continuing interest there has been in the field, making early music and its performance on original instruments accessible to a growing number of people.
The Early Music Shop has become the largest single source of early musical instruments world-wide, containing a bewildering display of instruments by makers from every quarter of the globe, serving customers who are no less widely dispersed. Our flagship showroom is located in the beautiful Victorian model village of Saltaire, near Bradford. Our London showroom is on the first floor of 11 Denmark Street, London's Tin Pan Alley.
